Piñata Photoshoot
For our papel picado inspired Save the Dates, we wanted the photo to be just as festive! So we built 7 custom giant piñatas with tissue paper fringe and huge paper confetti for our Save the Date photo shoot. It was a family affair with the help of my dad, Joe, who was the official confetti thrower. And our amazing wedding photographer, Sean Cook, took all of our Save the Date photos and truly captured our festive vision. The photo shoot took place at Prairie Production—our ceremony and reception venue. The room was flooded with natural lighting, and the location offered special meaning for us... being the same space where we will be getting married within the year. It was the perfect way to mark the start of our wedding celebrations!
We will also be re-incorporating the piñatas into our wedding decor as well... one will be used as the guest book! We will be cutting a slit into one so that our guests can slip notes into it and we will break it open on our 1st year anniversary to celebrate and enjoy the special notes from our family and friends!
We wanted the piñatas to be very exaggerated in size to fill the photo in a very dramatic way, so we built them about 2-3 times the size of standard piñatas. And to incorporate the art deco pattern on the papel picado card that held the photo, we built them in faceted. We created custom templates and cut the pieces from foam core and taped them together with white duct tape. Then we fringed hundreds of strips of tissued paper and glued them on the bases. Unfortunately, none were filled with candy... but maybe one day they will be filled with candy to bust open at an amazing birthday party or something.
