Save the Date... It's a Piñata Party!
Immediately after getting engaged, the first question on everyone's lips is, "When's the date??" While you want to revel in engagement bliss forever, actually having to plan the wedding quickly sets in. And the first step, of course, is setting the date. You can't plan too many details like booking a venue or vendors without figuring this out first.
Deciding on the perfect date for our wedding wasn't a hard decision because we knew we wanted to get married in October because Fall if our favorite season and the month we started dating. And when I realized that our actual anniversary (10/10) fell on a Friday, it was the perfect option for the evening wedding we knew we wanted!
Sending guests a Save the Date isn't always necessary, but because both of our families were traveling from out of town, we wanted to give them a heads up way in advance. And if we were sending them, we wanted to do something very special to set the tone and get our guests excited for our big fiesta! Because David's heritage is Mexican, we wanted our wedding to have a glamours fiesta vibe with subtle nods to Mexican traditions (in addition to the Italian touches that signified my Italian heritage).
So for our Save the Dates, I created a graphic and modern die-cut pattern that resembled white papel picado... white Mexican paper flags strung at weddings. Loving the graphic patterns of the Art Deco era, I created a custom design with a lot of "V" cheveron shapes to call to our new family name, Vaca, that we can use throughout our wedding details.
One of the most amazing design purchases I've made in a long time has been the Silhouette Cameo (no, they are not endorsing this post. ha)... and this machine made cutting out this super detailed custom die cut pattern possible! I was able to import my custom design from Illustrator into the Cameo's program and make something completely unique... and make over 100 of them at home! (Tutorial on how to do this to come.) But I was so excited to see what I was able to create after playing around with it awhile... and was so happy with how our DIY Save the Dates turned out! And guests really loved them too... it was the perfect way to kick off our wedding planning process and get everyone excited to come party with us!
